About the Faculty and Staff Equipment Loaner program
Loan guidelines
-
Who is eligible: Dornsife faculty and staff
-
Loan duration: Maximum of one semester
-
Equipment options: Mac and Windows laptops
We created the DTS equipment loaner program to meet the technology needs of Dornsife faculty and staff on an emergency and temporary basis. You may want to place a loan request with us if, for example:
- Your usual computer is unavailable because it is undergoing repair or in the process of being replaced,
- Your usual computer is a desktop computer but you are traveling and need a laptop,
- Your usual computer is a desktop computer but you need a laptop for classroom presentations, or
- You need a laptop while hosting an event or workshop.
You will need a Dornsife account to request a laptop as well as log in to the laptop. Dornsife faculty and staff can request a Dornsife account online: https://dtssupport.usc.edu/support/catalog/items/101. Requests for accounts are typically processed within one business day.
Borrower responsibilities
Your responsibilities as outlined in the equipment loaner agreement are as follows:
Borrowers are solely responsible for the safe and timely return of all borrowed equipment, before the due date. All lending periods are for a maximum of one academic semester and all equipment must be returned on or before the last day of exams in the current academic semester.
Borrowers are responsible for loss, theft, and all damage beyond normal wear from reasonable use of the equipment. Borrowers will notify Dornsife Technology Services immediately upon incidents of loss, theft, or damage. In the event that equipment must be replaced or repaired, the borrower will be billed the repair or replacement costs. Borrowers are forbidden from erasing the operating system and management profiles. Files and data left on the device, after the device has been returned, will be irretrievable. Device loans may not be renewed and follow the equipment fine schedule at $20/day for each overdue day. All devices are supported on a "best effort" basis and are not guaranteed for any particular purpose. Malfunctioning devices and equipment should be returned to Dornsife Technology Services for repair or replacement.
Submitting a request
We ask that you submit your requests online at least one (1) business day in advance. This gives us time to process your request and prepare your laptop. As our department has a limited number of devices available, requests are approved on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, due to our limited inventory, we cannot fulfill requests for laptop performance specifications beyond the option of a Mac or Windows operating system.
Additional resources
Our equipment loaner program is not designed to be a permanent solution to a technology need, so please contact us to discuss the available options if you need a permanent solution.
