The iVIP program at USC
Now that you hold the status of USC affiliate (also sometimes colloquially referred to as iVIP) you have electronic access to USC services. Please follow the guides below to activate and access each service.
Useful terms
- USC affiliate
- An individual who has been granted electronic access to USC services and who does not hold the status of active USC faculty, staff, or student
- iVIP system
- The system USC uses to grant affiliate status
- iVIP
- Technically refers to the iVIP system, but colloquially, iVIP is used interchangeably with affiliate (e.g. "Sasha is an iVIP" just means "Sasha is a USC affiliate")
If you are new to USC
Please follow these steps if you have never held the status of USC faculty, staff, or student, as you will need to first set up your USC account in order to electronically access USC services.
- Once you receive an email confirming you have been entered into the iVIP system, you can set up your USC account, a two-step process which involves activating your username and setting up two-factor authentication:
First, activate your USC NetID (username)
Quick guide
- Open your confirmation email from USC and locate your 10-digit USC ID number.
- Go to https://itservices.usc.edu/uscnetid/.
- Click on Activate your USC NetID.
- Type in the 10-digit USC ID number from the email, as well as your date of birth.
- Click on Find your USCnet ID.
- Your USC NetID displays and you are asked to type in a secondary email address.
- If you receive an error message stating that your USC account is already activated, you can retrieve your USC username and reset your password at the following links:
- Fill out the Secondary email address field, and click on Confirm email address
- USC emails you at your secondary email address with a confirmation code.
- Copy the confirmation code from your email and paste it into the Confirmation code field. Fill out the New password and Retype password fields, and click on Save password.
- You have successfully set up your USC account. You're all set!>

- Open your confirmation email from USC and locate your 10-digit USC ID number. This email should look similar to the following:
You have been entered into the iVIP system here at USC. iVIP is the system that supports access to University services for people who are not active students, faculty or staff. In the process of creating an iVIP record, you have been assigned the USC ID number 0123456789. If you were previously assigned a USC ID number as a student or employee, this number should be the same. If that is not the case, please contact me by return email to resolve the discrepancy. Please retain your USC ID number in your records, as it is needed for activating computer accounts, in interactions with some USC offices and for other purposes.
- Go to https://itservices.usc.edu/uscnetid/.
- Click on Activate your USC NetID.
- Input the 10-digit USC ID number from the email, as well as your date of birth.
- Click on Find your USCnet ID.
- Your USC NetID displays and you are asked to type in a secondary email address.
- If you receive an error message stating that your USC account is already activated, you can retrieve your USC username and reset your password at the following links:
- Fill out the Secondary email address field, and click on Confirm email address.

Next, set up two-factor authentication with Duo
- You can now begin logging into and accessing USC services. In each case, you can log in by typing in your USC NetID and password and completing the multi-factor authentication login screen.
Requesting access to Dornsife services
- If you need to use any of the following resources at Dornsife, please have your sponsor request a new Dornsife account for you if they haven't already done so:
- Departmental network printers
- Departmental computers
- Departmental shared folders/drives
If you previously had a USC ID
Access to USC electronic services
If you held the status of USC faculty, staff, or student at any point in the past, your USC NetID and username are reactivated when you become an affiliate, and you can once again log into your USC email account and into Microsoft applications.
