Using FileCloud via web browser or phone/tablet Skip to:OverviewAccessing FileCloud via web browserAccessing FileCloud via iPhone/iPadAccessing FileCloud via Android phone/tablet Overview Generally we recommend following our guide, "Connecting to Dornsife network drives," for instructions on accessing your department's shared network drive when you do not have access to a Dornsife-managed PC. DTS has very limited licenses for FileCloud for cases where network drive access is needed but it is not possible to follow the standard steps for connecting to the Dornsife network drives on your computer. Please email us at ts@dornsife.usc.edu to request a license. Accessing FileCloud via web browser Accessing FileCloud via web Open a web browser and navigate to https://dtsfilecloud.dts.usc.edu. Enter your USC NetID username and password, and click on Login. The FileCloud dashboard displays. Click on Network Shares. The network drives to which you have access display. You should see a departmental drive (the G: drive) and a personal drive (the U: drive). Working with files in FileCloud for web To work with a file in FileCloud, you need to download a copy of the file to your device. After making the necessary changes to your downloaded copy, you can upload the edited file. Go to https://dtsfilecloud.dts.usc.edu and navigate to your file(s). Select the checkbox next to the file name, and click on Download. The file downloads to your computer and prompts you to open or save the item. Proceed to edit the file on your computer. Once you finish editing the file on your computer, you must upload the edited file to the network drive. Return to https://dtsfilecloud.dts.usc.edu and navigate to the folder you want to upload the file to. Click on the Upload button at the top right side of the screen. Locate the edited file on your computer and click on Open. The file is uploaded to the network drive. Sharing files in FileCloud for web Go to https://dtsfilecloud.dts.usc.edu and navigate to your file(s). Select the checkbox next to the file name, and click on Share. A window opens. Copy the link displayed in the window and email that link via Outlook or your preferred email client to anyone with whom you want to share your file. Accessing FileCloud via iPhone/iPad Before you can use FileCloud on your iOS device, you need to download the FileCloud app from the App Store. Additionally, you need to download the application associated with the file you want to access via FileCloud. For example, if you need to download and edit a Word document from your department's G: drive, you need both the FileCloud and Microsoft Word apps installed on your iOS device. Installing and configuring FileCloud for iOS Go to the App Store on your iOS device, and search for "FileCloud." Tap on Get to begin the download. After the app installs, tap on the FileCloud icon to open the app. To begin working with FileCloud, enter the following account information and tap on Save: https://dtsfilecloud.dts.usc.edu Your USC NetID username and password The Accounts screen displays. Tap on your username. Tap on Network Shares. The G: and the U: drives display. FileCloud is now installed and configured for use. Working with files in FileCloud for iOS To work with a file in FileCloud, you need to download a copy of the file to your device. After making the necessary changes to your downloaded copy, you can upload the edited file. You need to download any necessary program apps, such as Word or Excel, to your iOS device in order to edit files. Select your file and then tap on the options icon in either the upper right corner or bottom right corner of your screen to choose the application you want to use to download and edit your file. When you are finished editing the file, save your changes to the file on your iOS device. Open FileCloud and navigate to the folder where you want to upload the edited file. Tap on the arrow option in the upper right corner of your screen. Tap on Upload Files to this FolderĀ and select your file from your iOS device. Tap on Done. The file is uploaded to the network drive location you selected. Accessing FileCloud via Android phone/tablet Before you can use FileCloud on your Android device, you need to download the FileCloud app from the Play Store. Additionally, you also need to download the application associated with the file you want to access via FileCloud. For example, if you need to download and edit a Word document from your department's G: drive, you need the FileCloud and Microsoft Word apps installed on your Android device. Installing and configuring FileCloud for Android Go to the Play Store on your Android device, and search for "FileCloud." Tap on FileCloud. Tap on INSTALL. Tap on ACCEPT. After the FileCloud app finishes installing, tap on OPEN. To begin working with FileCloud, enter the following account information and tap on Save: https://dtsfilecloud.dts.usc.edu Your USC NetID username and password Tap on your username in the left panel. Tap on Network Shares. The G: and the U: drives display. FileCloud is now installed and configured for use. Working with files in FileCloud for Android To work with a file in FileCloud, you need to download a copy of the file to your device. After making the necessary changes to your downloaded copy, you can upload the edited file. You need to download any necessary program apps, such as Word or Excel, to your Android device in order to edit files. Select your file and tap on OPEN. Select the app with which you want to open the file, such as Word or Excel. When you are finished editing the file, save your changes to the file on your Android device. Open FileCloud and navigate to the folder where you want to upload the edited file. Tap on the arrow option in the upper right corner of your screen. Tap on Upload to Folder. Select your file from your Android device, and tap on DONE. The file is uploaded to the network drive location you selected.
