Overview
In order to maintain compliance with USC’s evolving network infrastructure and IT security policies, it has become necessary to standardize the procurement process for all Dornsife-funded technology resources and services. Following this process ensures Dornsife Technology Services (DTS) can provide quality support for all Dornsife faculty and staff, as well as fulfill Dornsife’s obligations to the University.
All IT equipment purchasing at Dornsife must follow the Dornsife IT procurement policy. IT equipment, software, and services purchased outside of the Dornsife IT procurement policy cannot be supported, financially or otherwise, by Dornsife.
Purchasing a computer or tablet
Computer and tablet purchasing requests must be submitted through the DTS service catalog, which lists DTS-approved standard computer and tablet models. In-stock models are indicated as such in the catalog and are ready to be shipped out by DTS within two business days of purchase. Models that are not in stock will require additional time to be ready for shipping.
If you require a more customized configuration, select the "Custom Computer" item in the DTS service catalog: we will work with you to purchase an appropriate solution on your behalf. Please note that custom computer purchases will take longer to process.
Faculty Affairs computer funding program
If you are full-time faculty at Dornsife, you may be eligible for the Faculty Affairs computer funding program.
Purchasing other IT equipment
Additional IT equipment purchasing requests (e.g. monitors, printers, and external hard drives) must be submitted through the DTS service catalog.
If you require other hardware or accessories not listed in the catalog, select the "Other Hardware or Accessories" item in the DTS service catalog.
Returning a recent purchase
Requests to return new IT equipment should be initiated as soon as possible. Please submit your request as a ticket to the DTS Help Desk. Return policies vary by vendor, but DTS will assist Dornsife departments and staff in assessing the options available if the return window has closed.
Student purchasing recommendations
The Dornsife IT procurement policy applies to all IT equipment purchasing at Dornsife, but we also receive requests from current and prospective Dornsife students for personal computing recommendations. The Windows and Mac computers that are available for sale in the USC Bookstore will meet the computing needs of the majority of USC students. Purchasing a computer at the USC Bookstore allows students to take advantage of available education discounts.
Students should check with their individual programs to see if any specialized software will be needed for their program/major. Specialized software may require a different computer configuration. However, the USC Bookstore staff should be able to make recommendations based on the system requirements of the software.
