USC Dropbox for faculty vs personal Dropbox accounts
There are two methods you can use to determine whether you are currently using a USC Dropbox for faculty account, or a personal account:
Method 1: Dropbox login method
- Open an incognito or private browser tab.
- Go to https://usc.edu/dropbox.
- The Shibboleth login page displays. Log in using your USC NetID credentials.
- The Duo screen displays. Follow the on-screen prompt to complete authentication.
- Depending on what you see on your screen:
- If your account's Dropbox home screen loads: You have a USC Dropbox for faculty account.
- If the Dropbox login screen loads with a message at the top stating that "You aren't a member of this team. Please reach out to your admin for help.": You have a personal Dropbox account.
Method 2: Dropbox plan type
- Go to https://www.dropbox.com/account/plan.
- Enter your login information if you are not already signed in.
- Depending on what you see on your screen:
- Dropbox Basic, Dropbox Plus, or Dropbox Family: You have a personal Dropbox account.
- Dropbox Professional/Business/Education: You have a USC Dropbox for faculty account.
Faculty with existing personal Dropbox accounts
If you are currently using a Dropbox personal account, even if it's through a @usc.edu email address, you are not affected by the ending of the Dropbox for faculty option.
Converting a USC Dropbox for faculty account into a Dropbox personal account
If you currently have a USC Dropbox for faculty account, you can request to have your account converted into a Dropbox personal account under your @usc.edu email address. You must attest that your Dropbox account will not contain FERPA, HIPAA, or USC-sensitive files, and should be aware that basic personal accounts have a 2GB storage limit (so either your account must be brought under 2GB or you must purchase a personal plan).
Once you attest that you do not have sensitive files in your current USC Dropbox for faculty account, you can email DTS at ts@dornsife.usc.edu and we will open a ServiceNow ticket with the ITS Collaboration team on your behalf.
