Disconnecting your non-Zoom desk phone
On your Dornsife department's scheduled transition date, your USC phone number will be switched over to Zoom Phone and your old desk phone will no longer have service. You can leave your old desk phone in place for now, but if/when you remove it, make sure you disconnect it properly.
If your computer relies on an Ethernet connection, you'll need to check whether your desk phone and your computer are connected to each other before you remove your desk phone.
On the back of your desk phone, there should be one or two Ethernet cables plugged in:
If there is just one Ethernet cable connected to your desk phone
No special action is needed. You can safely remove your desk phone and any cables attached to it.
If there are two Ethernet cables connected to your desk phone
In this case, your computer's Ethernet connection passes through your desk phone, so you will need to take the following steps:
- Disconnect (at both ends) the Ethernet cable that connects your desk phone to your computer. You can remove this cable entirely.
- Disconnect the remaining cable from your desk phone, and connect it instead to your computer. (The other end of the cable is connected to the wall port.)
- You can now remove your desk phone.
