Overview
Follow the guide below to set up an Event Listing Page for your department's minisite. This Page will automatically display a list of events pulled from the USC calendar using the Localist widget (instructions are included below). You can optionally and manually add a featured event to appear at the top of the Page.
Setting up an Event Listing Page
Quick guide
Step 1: Select the Event Listing template
- Click Pages > Add New.
- Fill out the Add title field.
- In the Settings sidebar (right side), locate the "Template" field and click Default template.
- Click Default template and select Event Listing from the dropdown.
- Click Save draft (top right). Refresh the page.
- Unable to save? Make sure you filled out the Add title field.
- You can now begin adding content.
Step 2: Add content to the Page
To add the Localist widget:
- Go to https://calendar.usc.edu/help/widget.
- Fill out the fields. We recommend the following style options:
-
Template: Default
-
Widget Type: Mini Calendar + List
-
Style: Modern
- Select the checkbox Open Links in New Window
- Note that the default for Days Ahead is 31. You can change this number to show events further ahead in the future (up to 365 days), or even set the number to a negative to show past events instead.
- Click Generate Embed Code.
- Copy the contents of the Widget Embed Code.
- Return to your Event Listing page in WordPress. Scroll down to the Localist Embed field, and paste the code.
To add a featured event (optional):
- Fill out the fields in the Featured Event section, above the Localist Embed field. Adding a featured event is manual: you will not be able to pull the information automatically from Localist.
Step 3: Save and publish
- To save your progress, click Save Draft. Note that the classic ACF editor does not have an autosave feature.
- To publish the Page, click Publish.
