Overview
You may find yourself needing to make significant edits to a page that's already published on your Dornsife website. To do this, you can use the Rewrite & Republish feature: website visitors will continue to see the current published page, while you work behind the scenes to make changes that are not published before you are ready.
This feature is automatically available on all Dornsife WordPress sites, and it is a feature of the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin.
Using Rewrite & Republish for a published page
Quick guide
- In the left menu, click Pages.
- Hover over the title of the published page, and click Rewrite & Republish.
- WordPress duplicates the page and opens the new, duplicated draft in the editor. You can now take your time making edits, saving the draft, and previewing the page. Any edits you make will only affect this draft, not the original page.
- Note that the original page and the draft page will both appear in the pages list. Make sure you're selecting the draft page when you make edits. The page titles are formatted as follows:
-
Original published page: [Page title]
-
Draft page: [Page title] — Draft, Rewrite & Republish of [Page title]
- Once you are ready to publish the edited draft, click Republish. Be aware that this will replace the original published page.

Rewrite & Republish vs. Clone or New Draft

If you are trying to duplicate the page to create a new page rather than revising a published page, consider the Clone or New Draft feature instead:
Troubleshooting
No Rewrite & Republish option?

The Rewrite & Republish option does not appear if it's already been used to generate a draft page. You will need to either republish the existing draft page, or delete it entirely, before you can again access Rewrite & Republish on the published page.
To delete a draft:
Quick guide
- Hover over the draft title, and select Trash.
- At the top, select the Trash tab.
- Hover over the draft title, and select Delete Permanently.
- The Rewrite & Republish option should now appear again for the original published page.
