Overview
As a Dornsife faculty or staff member, or an authorized Dornsife graduate student, you can print to your department's wireless or network printers. Web Print at https://dtsprint.dts.usc.edu makes it possible for you to print from the browser, even on computers where the printer has not been installed.
Web Print is also a useful troubleshooting tool if you installed a printer but are having issues printing to it from your computer, and do not know if it is the printer or your computer that is at fault.
Before you begin: Verifying network and printer access
Before trying to print, make sure that:
- The printer is on and isn't displaying an error message
- You have permission to print to the printer
- Your computer is connected to the Internet via either Ethernet or USC Secure Wireless (do not use USC Guest Wireless)
- The documents you want to print are saved as files on your computer (Web Print requires you to upload the files)
Requesting printer access
If you are new to USC Dornsife or have never printed to a Dornsife printer before, you may need to obtain a Dornsife Account first:
If you have a Dornsife Account but your department printers don't show up as options when you log into PaperCut Print, you may need to request department printer access:
Using Web Print to print files
Quick guide
- Make sure you are connected to the USC network using Ethernet or USC Secure Wireless. Do not use USC Guest Wireless.
- Go to https://dtsprint.dts.usc.edu. Type the following credentials, and click Log in:
- Username: Your USC NetID
- Password: Your USC NetID passphrase
- If you are unable to log in after multiple attempts, refer to the Troubleshooting section at the bottom of this guide.
- In the menu, click Web Print.
- Click Submit a Job.
- Select a printer from the list, and click 2. Print Options and Account Selection.
- Too many printers in the list? Type the printer name into the search bar to narrow down the list.
- Printer not showing up? You may need to request access to your department printers.
- You can adjust the number of copies to print. Then, click 3. Upload Documents.
- Click Upload from computer and select your files to print. Once you are confident with your selection, click Upload & Complete. In most cases, the printer will immediately begin printing the selected files.
- If you selected a print-release printer, the printer will hold the files until you manually release the print job at the printer.

Troubleshooting
If you experience issues during the Web Print process, the guidance below will help you determine how to correct the issues, whether they originate with the network connection, your account, or the printer itself:
Unable to connect to https://dtsprint.dts.usc.edu
If your browser cannot connect to or load the Web Print website, you are not connected to the USC network.
Solution: Disconnect from USC Guest Wireless and connect instead to USC Secure Wireless.
Unable to log into https://dtsprint.dts.usc.edu
If you receive the error message "Invalid username or password" when you try to log in:
Solution 1 (if you have never printed to any Dornsife network printer before)
You may not have a Dornsife Account, which is required for Dornsife network printer access. Please request a Dornsife Account at the following link:
Solution 2 (if you have printed successfully to Dornsife network printers before)
Typically this occurs if your account is locked out due to too many incorrect password attempts. (On Macs, your account is locked out after two incorrect password attempts in a row.) Your account automatically unlocks after thirty minutes. To unlock it sooner, contact DTS during business hours through one of these methods:
For the ability to unlock your own account in the future, follow this guide after your account is unlocked:
Unable to see department printers when logged in
If you can successfully log into Web Print but the printer you need does not appear on the list of selectable printers:
Solution 1 (access needed; more common)
Your account doesn't have access to this printer. You can request access at the following link:
Solution 2 (local printer; less common)
The printer you need isn't a Dornsife network printer but rather a local wired printer, in which case you must use a physical cable to connect your computer to the printer.
Able to upload files but the printer does not print anything
If you are able to complete the Web Print steps above, but the printer doesn't actually print your files:
Solution: Turn off the printer, wait 30 seconds, and turn the printer back on again.
If the printer still doesn't print your files, contact DTS (especially if other staff members are also unable to print to the printer) as the issue may be hardware-related:
Able to print using Web Print but not directly from your computer
If you can successfully print using the Web Print steps above, but cannot print directly from your own computer, the issue may lie with your computer.
Solution: Try installing the printer to your computer using PaperCut Print Deploy Client. The printer may have previously been installed on your computer using an older, less reliable method. You can also contact DTS for assistance:
