Overview
This guide explains how Dornsife faculty and staff can install SPSS on a Dornsife-managed computer. Dornsife graduate students should skip down to "Accessing SPSS for Dornsife graduate students" to install SPSS on a personal computer.
You do not need to be connected to the USC network for the installation. However, to open and use SPSS after installation, you must be connected to Ethernet, USC Secure Wireless, or VPN.
Installing SPSS for Windows PC
Follow the instructions below based on your software installation application. If you are not sure whether your computer is using Company Portal or Software Center, you can search for either application in the Start menu search bar.

Installing SPSS for Mac
To install SPSS for Mac, first open Finder and check whether your Applications folder contains Company Portal. If you do not have Company Portal, follow the Meraki instructions instead:

Step 2: Open Company Portal and install SPSS
- Open Finder. Go to the Applications folder and select Company Portal.
Don't see Company Portal on your Mac? You may have an older computer: skip down to the Meraki instructions instead.
- Click Sign in.
- If you are not automatically signed in, you will need to manually sign in using your uscnetid@dts.usc.edu account (for example, if your USC NetID is ttrojan, your username is ttrojan@dts.usc.edu). For detailed steps, refer to the Company Portal instructions.
- Click Apps at the top.
- Select IBM SPSS Statistics.
- Click Install.
- SPSS downloads and installs. Allow 15–20 min for installation.
Step 2: Connect to the USC network and open SPSS
Once installation is complete, you can open SPSS:
- Make sure you are connected to the USC network:
- On-campus: Connect via Ethernet or USC Secure Wireless.
- Off-campus: Connect via VPN. To use SPSS off-campus without VPN, refer to "Using SPSS offline."
- Locate and open SPSS in the Applications folder in Finder.

Step 1: Install SPSS
- Go to https://portal.meraki.com/usc-dornsife. Type the following credentials and click Log in:
- Username: Your USC NetID
- Password: Your USC NetID passphrase
- If you are unable to log in despite using the correct username and password, submit a ticket so we can update your account.
- In the upper right, click My Devices and select your Mac.
- If your device is not showing up and it was issued to you by DTS, submit a ticket so we can update your account.
- Click the Apps tab.
- Locate SPSS and click Install.
- Click Install. Allow 15–20 min for installation.
Step 2: Connect to the USC network and open SPSS
Once installation is complete, you can open SPSS:
- Make sure you are connected to the USC network:
- On-campus: Connect via Ethernet or USC Secure Wireless.
- Off-campus: Connect via VPN. To use SPSS off-campus without VPN, refer to "Using SPSS offline."
- Locate and open SPSS in the Applications folder in Finder.
Accessing SPSS for Dornsife graduate students
To obtain access to SPSS as a Dornsife graduate student:
- Request an SPSS license through DTS.
- DTS will email you the license code and a direct link to the SPSS installer.
