MSC 209: Available equipment

Videoconferencing and presentation equipment

iPad controller used to control the following:
- Projector and projection screen
- Left and right display screens
- Mic array, adjustable cameras, and speakers
Optional multiport adapter (HDMI, VGA, USB-C, and Mini DisplayPort)

Videoconferencing and presentation equipment (back of room)

There is a standalone touchscreen at the back of MSC 209. When the partition in MSC 209 is up, MSC 209 is divided into two smaller rooms and a different Zoom meeting can be simultaneously held in each room.

Scheduling a meeting in MSC 209

Before the meeting, make sure to schedule the Zoom Room. You can send the Zoom meeting link and details by directly inviting the Zoom Room in Outlook calendar. The meeting is not confirmed until your invitation has been reviewed and accepted.

MSC 209 is listed in USC's Outlook directory as:

Holding a non-Zoom class or meeting

You can hold an in-person meeting and still use the Zoom Room's screen for its Share Screen feature. If you need to share content (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, videoclips), bring a computer.

Share your computer screen wirelessly

Quick guide

On your computer:

Connect to USC Secure Wireless or USC Guest Wireless.
Open the Zoom app. Instead of joining a meeting, click on Share Screen.
If prompted, type the Sharing Key (top right corner of the Zoom Room screen). Click on Share Screen.
- Is the Zoom Room screen off? On the iPad controller, tap on Share Content to display the Sharing Key.
To stop sharing, click on Stop Share (top of your computer screen).

If USC Secure Wireless and USC Guest Wireless are down, connect your computer directly to the Zoom Room by plugging the multiport adapter into your computer.

Holding a Zoom-enabled class or meeting

If you need to share content (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, videoclips), bring a computer.

If you want to create a new Zoom meeting on the spot:

On the iPad controller:

How to turn on the projector and lower the screen

When you use the iPad controller to start or join a Zoom meeting, the screen will automatically lower and the projector will turn on if it was previously off. You can also manually turn on the projector and lower the screen:

How to hold a Zoom meeting if USC Secure and Guest Wireless are down

The Zoom Room is connected to the Internet via Ethernet, so Zoom meetings will still work if USC Secure and Guest Wireless go down.

If you are sharing content from a computer, connect your computer directly to the Zoom Room by plugging the multiport adapter (next to the iPad controller) into your computer.

How to reset the multiport adapter if it doesn't detect your computer when connected

When you plug the multiport adapter into your computer, it should only take 1–3 seconds for your computer screen to automatically project to the Zoom Room screen.

If the connection isn't working, locate the reset button on the adapter (small circular green icon on the side). Press and hold this button for 5 seconds to reset the connection.

How to connect audio to the Zoom Room

When you connect your computer to the Zoom Room either via Share Screen in the Zoom app or using the multiport adapter, any sound will automatically play through the Zoom Room's speakers. To change the volume, you can either use the iPad controller or your own computer's volume control, and the Zoom Room's speakers will adjust accordingly.

If sound is coming through your computer speakers instead of through the Zoom Room's speakers

You will need to open your computer's audio settings and manually change the output from your computer's speakers to the Zoom Room's speakers. This has been known to be an issue on certain models of the MacBook Pro.

If sound is coming simultaneously through both your computer speakers and the Zoom Room's speakers

You are likely connected to the Zoom Room via the Join meeting function rather than directly via Share Screen. If you are unable to leave the Zoom meeting and use Share Screen instead, a workaround is to remain joined to the Zoom meeting but plug a set of headphones/earbuds into your computer. This allows sound to continue coming from the Zoom Room's speakers while dampening the sound from your computer speakers.

How to selectively screen share

By default, when you screen share to a Zoom Room, your computer's entire screen is shared. To selectively share a window, change your Zoom account settings:

Under "When I share directly to a Zoom Room," select Show all sharing options.
Now, when you screen share to a Zoom Room, Zoom will ask you to select a window to share.

How to screen share PowerPoints using presenter view

To show a PowerPoint using presenter view (slides appear on the Zoom Room display screen while presenter view appears on your own computer), you must connect your computer to the room with the multiport adapter.

How to adjust the cameras or speaker volume during a Zoom meeting

On the iPad controller, you can adjust the cameras and volume during a Zoom meeting:

If adjusting the cameras, we recommend first making sure that you are in gallery view so you can see both camera feeds: tap on View, and tap on Gallery.
To adjust the cameras, tap on Camera Control. Use the dropdown at the top to select which of the two cameras you want to adjust. Then, use the arrows and zoom in/out buttons.
To adjust the volume, use the volume slider.

How to join if the meeting is listed in the schedule but there is no Start button

A Start button will not appear if a meeting with no Zoom link is scheduled to the Zoom Room. If there is no Start button, you can still manually join the meeting:
